At Zurich our mission is to help our customers understand and protect themselves from risk. As a responsible corporation we approach that mission broadly, helping more than just our direct customers. Natural disasters represent one area where we can leverage our expertise to make a significant difference. Society is becoming more vulnerable to natural disasters and their cost is increasing overall, driven by factors such as climate change and urbanization. We offer our expertise to non-profit organizations to make communities stronger and more resilient to such disasters.
We also leverage our risk expertise for issues beyond disaster resilience – issues such as disease prevention, adaptation to climate change and financial inclusion. In Zurich North America we helped to start NetGuarantee, an innovative finance facility through which we give mosquito net suppliers a form of credit insurance. This insurance dramatically reduces the time between grant disbursement and delivery of mosquito nets to recipient countries, protecting millions of people in at-risk communities. In Ireland and Switzerland we introduced electric car insurance – a first in both countries. These products, which include a 20 percent premium discount for electric car insurance customers, support the move towards more environmentally friendly transportation and the larger transition to a low-carbon economy.
