Board of Directors

The Board of Directors currently consists of eleven members and is chaired by Josef Ackermann. It is responsible for determining the overall strategy of the Group and for the supervision of senior management. It holds the ultimate decision-making authority for Zurich Insurance Group Ltd, except for those decisions reserved to the shareholders. Board meetings are held at least six times per year.

The members of the Board of Directors are elected by the shareholders at the Annual General Meeting. After the election, the Board constitutes itself in its first meeting and appoints the chairman and the vice-chairman amongst its members. The ordinary term of office of the board members is three years. All members are non-executive directors, independent of management.
