Microinsurance

For millions of low-income families, insurance and other financial services are too often unknown, not appropriate or beyond reach. Microinsurance combines the core skills and sophistication of insurance and risk management with new learning, research and innovation in order to appropriately and expediently serve low-income populations. Its aim is sustainability; the products and services must provide benefits to the customer in a commercially viable way for the provider.

Zurich's Microinsurance Practice leads the business globally, fosters development locally, and directs functional expertise to specific projects in various countries.

Partnerships

Zurich works with both public and private actors to tailor our business model to local markets. This includes the ongoing public-private partnership with the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC) and the International Labour Organization (ILO), and collaboration with multilateral institutions in a number of forums such as the Joint Working Group with the International Association of Insurance Supervisors and the Microinsurance Network. We also support various research projects with academic institutions, and work with non-profit organizations such as Women’s World Banking.

Markets

In countries across Latin America, Africa and Asia, the business of growing microinsurance continues. Zurich recognizes that constant improvement and learning are fundamental elements of this initiative and that, as we get better at delivering insurance in these markets, the chances to make a real difference in our customers’ lives improves.
