University cooperation

By working with universities around the world, Zurich facilitates knowledge transfer and builds emerging market capacity in risk management, insurance economics, actuarial science and supervisory regimes. Examples of our cooperation with universities include:

  • Sponsorship of an exchange program that brings students from Fudan (Shanghai) and Tsinghua (Beijing) Universities to the University of Zurich and sends students from the University of Zurich to each of those Chinese universities. In 2008, two students from Tsinghua University’s School of Economics and Management (SEM) and one from Fudan University’s School of Management completed courses in finance and economics at the University of Zurich. In exchange, two students from the University of Zurich studied in China. One completed courses in business administration at Tsinghua University and the other studied economics at Fudan University
  • The establishment of a permanent chair professorship at the newly created Research Center for Insurance and Risk Management, housed at Tsinghua University’s School of Economics and Management, which focuses on training insurance industry academics and professionals
  • The Zurich Chinese Scholars Fund at New York’s St. John‘s University School of Risk Management, Insurance and Actuarial Science provides tuition, room and board for Chinese students to complete a one-year Master of Science program in Management of Risk. The first three students were admitted to the program for the Fall of 2008.
  • The Zurich Dissertation Prize annually awards an outstanding dissertation on the topic of risk to a student in the Department of Management, Technology and Economics at ETH Zürich. The first prize was awarded in 2008 to Dr. Arne Ziegenbein for his dissertation on the identification, assessment and management of supply chain risks.
