James J. Schiro
Chief Executive Officer
James J. Schiro (born 1946, US Citizen) is Chief Executive Officer of Zurich Financial Services Ltd (Zurich). He joined Zurich as Chief Operating Officer Finance in March 2002 and at the same time became a Member of the Group Executive Committee. He subsequently was appointed Chief Executive Officer of the Group in May 2002.
Prior to joining Zurich, Mr. Schiro made a distinguished career at PricewaterhouseCoopers where he started after graduating from St. John's University in 1967. He held various management positions before becoming chairman and senior partner of the U.S. firm in 1994. After the merger of Price Waterhouse and Coopers & Lybrand in 1998, he became global chief executive officer of PricewaterhouseCoopers.
Mr. Schiro is a member of the board of directors of PepsiCo. and the supervisory board of Royal Philips Electronics. He is also a member of the board of the Swiss American Chamber of Commerce, The Geneva Association, and a the Institute of International Finance, as well as a member of the European Financial Services Round Table and the Business Council of the World Economic Forum. Since May 2009 is also a member of the board of directors of Goldman Sachs. Additionally, he serves as vice-chairman of the American Friends of the Lucerne Festival and he is a member of the board of trustees of the Lucerne Festival. Furthermore, he is a member of the boards of trustees of St. John's University, New York, the Institute for Advanced Study, Princeton, New Jersey, and sits on the advisory board of the Tsinghua School of Economics and Management in Beijing, China, as well as on various other boards.
James J. Schiro graduated from St. John's University, New York, with a bachelor's degree in business administration. He holds an honorary Doctor of Commercial Science degree from the same university.
