Where we operate

We take a global approach to our core businesses of general and life insurance. Corporate, business, and individual customers benefit from our strong presence in the world’s most attractive insurance markets. With our scale and financial strength we deliver world class service in more than 170 countries.

Europe

In Europe, our presence is anchored by major operations in Germany, Italy, Spain, Switzerland and the United Kingdom. We also have a significant presence in Austria, Ireland, Portugal, Russia and Turkey.

North America

Zurich has been in North America for nearly a hundred years, becoming the first continental insurer to work in the U.S. in 1912. We began operating in Canada in 1923. Today we're the third largest property and casualty insurer in the U.S., as well as its third largest auto and home insurer through Farmers.

Asia Pacific

We started operations in Australia in 1961, when we acquired the Commonwealth General Assurance Corporation Ltd (CGA), originally of New South Wales. Today Zurich Australia has around 1,000 employees. Around Asia there is especially high growth potential in the life market, where young professionals and high net worth customers make up the fastest-growing sector investing in our products in Greater China. Our Zurich International Life group is now targeting other markets in Southeast Asia, with their large expatriate communities and growing professional classes.

Other markets

Zurich is represented in Latin America market through offices in Mexico, Argentina, Bolivia, Chile and Brazil.

Emerging markets are key to our strategy for growth. Emerging markets are key in helping us deliver substantial future value and establish Zurich as one of the top global insurers. Growing our presence in emerging markets reinforces our strong global network and puts us in position to take advantage of long-term growth opportunities.
