Paul van de Geijn

Paul van de Geijn is a member of the Group Executive Committee and was Chief Executive Officer Global Life of Zurich Financial Services (Zurich) until March 31, 2008. Mr. van de Geijn has agreed to continue to share his wide knowledge and experience with the Group and to serve in the role of Chairman, China Management Board through his retirement date on December 31, 2008. He joined Zurich in November 2003.
Mr. van de Geijn joined one of the predecessors of Aegon in 1971 as legal counsel and then worked in the non-life sector before moving to a senior management position in 1978. After the merger which created Aegon in 1983, he was appointed a member of the Management Board of Aegon the Netherlands, becoming its chairman in 1991. The following year, he joined the Executive Board of Aegon N.V., with responsibilities for the Dutch and later Spanish and Hungarian operations. He last was responsible for Aegon USA, which is exclusively operating in the Life segment.
From 2000 to 2002, Mr. van de Geijn was chairman of the Dutch Association of Insurers. In addition, he held positions in a public-private partnership in crime control as well as in the Executive Committee of the Dutch Employers’ Association. He was also active in a number of community programs in his home town Amsterdam.
Mr. van de Geijn earned a degree in business law from the University of Leiden in the Netherlands in 1971, and he participated in the Advanced Management Program at the Harvard Business School.
