Reto Schiltknecht

Reto Schiltknecht is a member of the Group Management Board of Zurich Financial Services (Zurich) and Group General Counsel. In his position he oversees all legal and compliance functions worldwide across the Zurich Group. He joined Zurich in September 2007.
Reto Schiltknecht started his career in 1989 as an attorney with the law firm Prof. Dr. Hans Giger in Zurich. From 1989 to 1991 he was a legal counsel in the legal department of Bank Julius Bär & Co. AG in Zurich. Between 1991 and 1992 he had his own law firm in Lucerne. In 1992 he started to work with Schindler Management AG in Ebikon/Hergiswil (Switzerland), one of the leading companies for elevators and escalators worldwide, as an attorney in the Legal, Tax and M&A department. In 1996 he was appointed Vice President. In 1999 he worked as a foreign associate at Weil, Gotshal & Manges LLP, a law firm in New York. Reto Schiltknecht returned to Schindler Management AG in 2000 as Coordinator and Supervisor Law in the rank of a First Vice President. In 2002 he was appointed Associate General Counsel and in 2006 he became Head of the Corporate Legal Department and Deputy Group General Counsel of the Schindler Group.
From 2004 through 2007 he was Chairman of the Legal Committee of the European Lifts Association ("ELA").
Reto Schiltknecht completed his studies in law and business administration 1987 with a degree in jurisprudence at the University of Berne ("magna cum laude") and was awarded by the law faculty of the same University for the best legal examination of the year. He achieved his doctorate ("PhD") of law from the University of Berne in 1997. He is admitted to the Bar of the Canton of Lucerne since 1988 and as a Notary Public of the same canton since 1998. Reto Schiltknecht is an author of a broad range of publications.
