Alessandra Catozzella

Business Analyst, Global Claims

What is your background?

  • I was born in Taranto, Italy.
  • I speak Italian, English, Spanish and "ein bisschen Deutsch."
  • I graduated in Economics from the Catholic University and earned a PhD in Economics at the University of Pavia with a focus on micro-econometrics and economics of innovation.
  • I joined Zurich in 2007 as a Global Associate, starting in Planning and Reporting in Zurich Italy before moving to Switzerland, where I am now a Business Analyst in the Global Claims team.
  • I enjoy reading, writing (economic papers as well as stories and lyrics), travelling and water sports. I've even tried underwater target shooting!

Why did you choose Zurich?

I come from a strong theoretical background and was looking for a chance to apply my knowledge without giving up the opportunity to learn more by doing and interacting with other people. And there it was: Zurich's Global Associates Program, an international training programme that opened the doors of the insurance world to 82 young people like me with completely different backgrounds. There are few programmes like this out there - and none as good!

Why have you stayed with Zurich?

Because I have fun here. I love the challenges this job makes me deal with. I love the opportunity I have of constantly learning and changing - and debating with smart people in an international environment.

If I were interviewing you…

…I'd look for creativity, eagerness of learning and a critical and self-critical attitude.
