Henry Onions
Head of Planning, Analytics and Performance Management, Group Finance
What is your background?
- I was born in the UK.
- I earned a Mathematics degree from Oxford University and am a Fellow of the Institute of Actuaries.
- I started my working life in the UK and moved to Australia in 1990 about the same time I completed my actuarial exams. While in Australia I worked with AMP and also lived and worked in Jakarta, Indonesia, for three years.
- I joined Zurich in 2005 in Australia as Chief Actuary and moved to Switzerland in 2007 as Chief Actuary for International Businesses.
- I started my current role in Group Finance in September 2008.
- I'm married with two daughters, aged 11 and 13.
Why did you choose Zurich?
My first role at Zurich offered involvement with an ongoing and growing business - a contrast to my work at the time in run-off. I also saw Zurich as part of a respected global organisation that offered potential international opportunities.
Why have you stayed with Zurich?
I enjoy roles that offer a variety of challenges and the opportunity to learn and do new things, including working with people from a diverse range of cultures. My roles in Zurich have very much provided these things.
If I were interviewing you…
…I'd look for enthusiasm and a desire to make a difference, tempered by an underlying professionalism and a core of technical know-how.
