What is your background?
- I earned an honours degree in Public Relations at the University of Central Lancashire in the UK.
- I spent five years at the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders, the trade association for the motor industry in the UK.
- At the SMMT, I worked in roles in the Parliamentary and Policy division before joining the Press Office.
- I joined Zurich's UK Communications team two and a half years ago and now look after media relations for our Direct division.
Why did you choose Zurich?
I love being involved in an organisation where we have so many opportunities in so many different areas and locations. Being at the centre of that organisation in a communications function is a great place to be. We can influence how decisions are made and communicated to our different audiences.
Why have you stayed with Zurich?
In the Zurich Communications team we face a never ending range of issues - many of which come out of the blue when journalists contact us. The variety is what keeps me going. One minute we can be doing a press release or a radio interview about the latest important car insurance issue; the next, preparing a Chief Executive briefing for a profile interview; and the next, helping a photographer take pictures of our buildings. You just never know what the next phone call will be about!
If I were interviewing you…
…I'd look for someone with enthusiasm for their area of expertise and an understanding of what Zurich is all about. It's so easy in this day and age to find out a lot of information about the company you might be speaking to - being prepared is mandatory and gives the best impression.
