What is your background?
- I am an actuary by profession but also enjoy developing the business in a more entrepreneurial environment.
- In my last role as Chief Actuary for the group, I had the opportunity to work with some brilliant people: Zurich's top executives, the Board, senior bankers and other advisors, and, most importantly, the great actuarial teams at Zurich. With the actuarial staff numbering over 700 worldwide, there's an awesome amount of intellectual fire-power!
- I am currently Head of Global Specialties Practice.
Why did you choose Zurich?
I joined Zurich in 1993 as it was one of a very few companies that was truly international, had a strong brand, was financially sound and yet innovative and forward thinking. Zurich's emphasis on professionalism, discipline, corporate governance and social responsibility resonate with my personal and professional values.
Why have you stayed with Zurich?
Zurich has given me a stimulating and varied career. The active talent management has let me build on my actuarial background, but employ these skills on a broader environment. My current role, leading several product practice areas globally, is a great challenge and great fun. We're focusing on how we leverage global expertise. We have specialist talent in many countries and put leading products into the market place. This global approach is a powerful way to stay ahead of the competition. You could say we triumph through collaboration and communication.
If I were interviewing you…
…I'd look for passion and a desire to be the best through teamwork, collaboration, insight and a sense of fun. I think it's important always to smile, however big the challenge in front of you. And it's expedient as you're much more likely to find great solutions if you're enjoying what you do and have a stimulating environment.
