Zurich was founded in 1872 and is today one of the world's major players in insurance. It employs about 55,000 people serving customers in more than 120 countries. Zurich is an insurance-based financial services provider with a global network of subsidiaries and offices in North America and Europe, including the UK, as well as in Asia Pacific, Latin America and other markets. Its core business is life and general insurance.

Zurich Bank is an Irish registered credit institution, regulated by the Financial Regulator. Operating from its offices in La Touche House, International Financial Services Centre, Dublin 1, it is a wholly owned subsidiary of Zurich Financial Services (ZFS) and is rated A+ by S&P and A1 by Moody's.

Zurich Bank currently has three subsidiaries: Dunbar Bank, a UK based, regulated bank that specialises in property development finance, Zurich Bank International, based in the Isle of Man which undertakes wealth management and offshore banking services and Zurich Trust Limited, a Jersey based company which provides trust services to group companies and third parties.

The bank was previously an affiliate of Zurich Capital Markets, the capital markets business unit of Zurich Financial Services. Since 2004, the bank has concentrated on providing banking services to the ZFS group and building a platform to expand its product offering, which includes property lending, consumer credit, private banking and wealth management.
