Carbon neutral

Carbon neutrality at Zurich

We follow a three-step approach:

 Carbon neutral
Improving operational efficiency (space efficiency, energy efficiency, reducing business travel, etc.)
Carbon neutral Increasing the percentage of renewable energy purchased (hydro, solar, wind, etc.)
 Carbon neutral
Offsetting remaining carbon emissions by purchasing gold-level certified carbon credits from the Rimba Raya Biodiversity Reserve project.

In addition to our ambitious carbon emissions and energy reduction targets, Zurich has operated as a carbon neutral business since 2014. This is being achieved by offsetting remaining emissions from facilities and business travel through the purchase of certified carbon credits, each equal to one metric ton of carbon emissions being avoided or eliminated through investment in an offsetting project.

Zurich is supporting an outstanding REDD+ certified offsetting project, the Rimba Raya Biodiversity Reserve, which keeps more than 130 million tons of carbon emissions from being released into the earth’s atmosphere, and supports all 17 of the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals. This project is managed by InfiniteEARTH, a pioneer in environmental mitigation credits, which developed the first validated REDD+ project under the Verified Carbon Standard (VCS) Program, and helped define the criteria by which all projects are measured.
