Technical innovations offer insights into how climate change affects floods

Practical Action is developing innovative ideas on ways technology can improve the lives of the poorest. In September 2013 we strengthened our cooperation with them by agreeing to invest up to USD 9.7 million over five years, with a focus on finding innovative and sustainable solutions to flooding.

Working across Nepal, Peru and Bangladesh, we are looking at how technology can be used to develop early warning systems that enable communities to cope with flooding and provide safe access to markets so people can earn an income even during floods. We face very different contexts, ranging from rural to urban environments; and dealing with rare but devastating flash floods, or helping communities to better cope with recurring floods.
