Who will win Zurich’s first global insurtech start-up tournament? Meet the finalists (1)
Of the more than 450 insurtech start-ups that entered the first Zurich Innovation World Championship, eight advanced through Country and Regional Rounds to reach the final stage of the competition. On Jan. 30, Zurich’s Executive Committee will hear presentations in the Global Round and name three winners that will be given the opportunity to provide their solutions to Zurich customers in selected countries.

Here’s a look at four of the eight finalists whose innovative work has carried them to the global round.
Chisel AI
Region: North America
Chisel AI´s artificial intelligence solution allows global insurance brokers and insurers to complete administrative and process-focused tasks up to 400 times faster than a human and with greater accuracy. The company’s founder Ron Glozman created Chisel AI after first developing an app that allowed students to speed up the time it took to pore through textbooks while studying. Realizing the potential of his technology, Mr. Glozman used some of the time he freed up listening to business leaders discuss the issues that were slowing them down.
Shayp
Region: Europe, Middle East and Africa
ZIWC Entrant Country: Switzerland
Shayp has an ambitious goal of saving 100 billion liters of water per year by preventing and managing leaks. Its technology centers on a device that can be installed in two minutes and runs on a battery that lasts 10 years. Shayp’s mission to reduce water loss got its start in a garage in 2017 when Alex McCormack, the company’s chief executive officer, and Zinneddine Wakrim, who serves as chief technology officer, developed the technology’s prototype that is now being used to conserve a natural resource and mitigate the property damage that leaks can cause.
Nubihome
Region: Latin America
ZIWC Entrant Country: Argentina
Nubihome blends security and insurance in a way that connects homeowners with their homes and gives them access to personalized coverage. Originally developed as a smart platform for telecommunications companies to manage their cameras and store their streaming videos in the cloud, Nubihome adapted the approach by creating an app for homeowners. The platform integrates smart devices such as cameras and sensors that homeowners can access through the app. And, it analyzes data collected by the devices that insurers can use to provide insurance coverage tailored to customers’ specific needs.
Soldier.ly
Region: Asia Pacific
ZIWC Entrant Country: Australia
A military veteran’s struggle with post-traumatic stress disorder led to Soldier.ly’s creation of an app that uses real-time monitoring to help those suffering from stress. The first app of its kind, Soldier.ly tracks biometric data and sends an alert when signs of stress appear, offering guidance through breathing exercises, visualization or meditation to help reduce anxiety. The app was originally designed for veterans, but founder Chris Rhyss-Edwards realized the widespread need for the technology that can offer relief from stress to everyone.
