Wildfires are destructive and deadly; and highly unpredictable. Strong winds can cause them to suddenly change direction or cause embers to shoot across seemingly unburnable surfaces like asphalt road and rivers.
Airborne embers can travel as far as 3 to 5 km (2 to 3 miles) and ignite distant combustibles such as dry vegetation, yard storage and buildings within your location.
