Zurich appoints Sierra Signorelli as Group Chief Underwriting Officer; Group Claims moves to Commercial Insurance

Zurich Insurance Group (Zurich) has appointed Sierra Signorelli to an expanded role as Group Chief Underwriting Officer, while Group Claims, led by Ian Thompson, will move to Commercial Insurance. Both Ms. Signorelli and Mr. Thompson will report to James Shea, CEO of Commercial Insurance. These changes are effective as of October 1.

Ms. Signorelli, who is currently Chief Underwriting Officer for Commercial Insurance, will in her new role oversee the underwriting function across the Group. By bringing underwriting under one leader and structure Zurich will sharpen its underwriting focus and continue to improve capabilities across the organization. Ms. Signorelli will continue focusing on solidifying the underwriting culture by balancing experience, local and technical knowledge with investment in data, ensuring underwriters are well-positioned to make the appropriate risk selection decisions.

Ms. Signorelli has more than 20 years of underwriting experience having held leadership positions in the United States and Asia Pacific. Since joining Zurich in 2017, she has successfully repositioned the Commercial Insurance underwriting function and strengthened its resilience. She has been instrumental in helping to deliver differentiated services and products that meet customers’ evolving needs and expectations.

Group Claims will become part of the Commercial Insurance organization and Ian Thompson will continue to serve as Group Chief Claims Officer. Under Mr. Thompson’s leadership over the past two years, Group Claims has made significant strides to develop technical and people capabilities, drive the utilization of digitalization and automation across the organization and enhance the overall customer experience.

Underwriting and Claims have always worked closely across the organization. Bringing the two functions together under one structure to focus on support to underwriters and customers and delivering on Zurich’s commitments will strongly support the company’s success through the market cycles.
