Skills and experience
Alex Wells has more than 30 years of experience in the insurance industry across underwriting, distribution, operations and business management. He took on the role of CEO U.S. and became a member of the Executive Committee in September 2026. Prior to that, he served as President of U.S. Middle Market, Programs, Captives and Direct Markets from 2020 to 2026. Before joining Zurich in 2020, Mr. Wells spent 27 years with Chubb and ACE, where he held a number of senior leadership positions. From 2018 to 2020, he served as executive vice president and chief underwriting officer for commercial insurance. He was executive vice president and regional manager for the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic regions for commercial insurance from 2017 to 2018 and executive vice president for specialty casualty and construction from 2016 to 2017. Earlier roles included chief operating officer for specialty casualty, national manager for primary casualty and national manager for excess casualty.

Educational background
Mr. Wells holds a bachelor of science degree in finance from American University in Washington, D.C.
