Make the difference

Zurich’s internal flagship program to build our own entrepreneurs and empower innovation.

Our story

At Zurich, we know that our people are our strongest asset. We have our ear to the ground and finger on the pulse. That’s why in 2018, Make the Difference was formed as a way for us to elevate the voice of the employee, accelerate our efforts to execute on our strategy, and embrace new ways of working that increase the speed and impact of business change and innovation via bottom-up empowerment of our people.

Over the past four years, Make the Difference has brought together employees from all over the world with diverse talents and backgrounds who work in cross-functional teams to find ways to make Zurich simpler, more innovative, and more customer-focused. Together, we have listened to concerns, challenged the status quo, and found real solutions that have moved us forward. Always pushing to think outside the box, finding new ways of working to create cultural change.

Meet the 2023 participants

Our 2023 cohort

In 2023, we are developing 19 high-potential talented individuals representing 12 countries through an immersive 9-month modular program that builds knowledge, and enables practical experience in Business Unit led projects. At various points throughout the program, participants draw on the expertise they develop to represent the voice of the employee to Business units, Group Strategy, Group ExCo and the Board of Directors.

We combine education with hands-on experience and provide employees with exposure to Senior Leadership to equip them with the necessary skills to help create a Zurich that is ready to take on the future.

We partner with one of the top universities in the world, the University of St. Gallen, as well as internal experts, to upskill participants in critical business and leadership skills.

To supplement academic skills, participants also gain practical experience, bringing theories to life within the organization. These practical experiences will take the form of two secondments:

  • One with an external perspective - where participants facilitate success by driving 13 initiatives in the accelerator phase of the Zurich Innovation Championship, partnering with startups and BU leaders – helping to bring the outside in.
  • Another with an internal perspective - where participants help drive sustainable growth by partnering with Group Sustainability and key Business Unit’s to deliver on sustainable revenue targets.

This evolved program is a truly unique experience for both our company and our employees. Zurich benefits not only from a strong internal pipeline, but our employees also broaden their external and internal expertise, helping them to build transferable skills for the workplace and future to come.
